Hey There
Thanks for stopping by. My name is Sonya Dhanpat, I am a birth and postpartum support doula and owner of Dhandelion Haus. I received my doula training through the National Black Doula Association.
All About Me
Everyone has the super adult or “mom” in their friend group--that’s been me since preteen years. I am every bit of a nurturer and healer. And lucky for me, my mother encouraged this behavior as if I was a seasoned grandmother trapped in a child’s body. I wasn’t the kid asking to be a Disney princess or lots of toys. My mother had my sister and I (we are both empaths) playing games or telling stories in nursing homes, serving meals soup kitchens, teaching lessons in Sunday schools and babysitting. And if we weren’t there, mom gave me lessons for art, cooking, teaching, gardening, decorating, planning and etiquette. I had a fleet of animals over the years and cared for them with such deep conviction that my mother consistently tried to hide their inevitable deaths from me. She was constantly worried about how connected I would get to plants, animals, and children since my single digits. Although my mother has now passed, she would be pleased to know I've given into being a doula.

To be honest, I had been doing postpartum doula work for about 10+ years and had no idea. I was working a full time job in college and would use my paid time off for my friends that needed me. I’ve sat with my people while they aborted babies, miscarried, through postpartum depression, experienced guilt from weaning, just after birth, healing from cesareans, after sexual trauma, as their infants were fatally ill, or helped move across state lines with young families. My friends are my chosen family, so I was delighted to serve them judgement free and I intend to do the same for my clients.

I started Dhandelion Haus for 2 reasons. The first is that I recognize that those that I serve may not have a village for me to improve. To them (ya’ll) I’ve had to make my own village a few times and I can relate, I will help you form your own village and give you access to my community. Secondly, my Dhandelion Haus community will eventually expand to create an inclusive, safe, resourceful, and relaxing place for birthers, new parents, and birth workers. We should all have access to a reliable and trustworthy team for large milestones and want our clients to grow with us.

Throughout my entire career in education, no matter the job, I've found myself advocating for people and cultivating community. Here we are, nearing post-Covid and I've realized this is the only work I want to do.
Starting with the family unit, I've gotten my birth and postpartum doula certifications to begin strengthening villages and advocating success for humans that give birth and their babies.
Now I can be your village when you need it most because adulting is hard and sometimes we all need additional help during life's most beautiful and unexpected moments. Besides, we would hire a coordinator for social events, why not for the milestones of our lives?
